NAPA HOTEL A luxury hotel, spa and restaurant will be embedded into its sloping site on the eastern edge of the Napa Valley. Clustered around a central open vineyard space—passing through a Corten-steel wall into the entry court, guests first encounter the vineyard through the glass lobby—the suites of rooms (including private terraces, courtyards and gardens) are linked to the region’s winemaking heritage in a singularly immediate way. The low-profile stepped forms of the concrete building reduce the architectural mass; parking is pushed into the ground, out of sight. Sustainable design strategies involve green roofs, photovoltaic energy, solar hot water and graywater to minimize the project’s environmental impact.
