SANTA ROSA PLAZA

For an invited competition, the team of Jim Jennings Architecture with Gilberto Rodriguez and Ines Martins de Brito provided an architectural component to the landscape design by Meyer + Silberberg Land Architects.  The architecture defines the southern boundary of the new urban park with two primary elements: the solid—a black cube that opens to the park and contains support services as well as photovoltaic panels and other sustainable devices—and the void—a simple long-span structure that forms both a gateway entrance and a shaded pavilion for public activities.  A screen of thin vertical tubes aligns with the street to filter the traffic view and preserve the intimacy of the park.
